Ginny Graham, MS, LPC

Ginny Graham, MS, understands well that many people looking for counseling want to look at the challenges they face in the context of God’s loving design. She believes that good counseling can help clients heal from a variety of psychological wounds and the experience allows clients to grow in their capacity to be more open to God’s will and God’s ways. In addition to Ginny’s Pastoral Counseling degree from Loyola College in Maryland, she is also certified by the ecumenical Shalem Institute for Spiritual Guidance. In this capacity she brings over ten years as a spiritual director in the Northern Virginia area to her current practice of Pastoral Counseling here at PC&CC. Her clients appreciate the way she helps them clarify the often blurry lines between their spiritual and psychological problems.

Ginny practice extends to individuals, couples and families who are challenged by clinical issues such as depression, anxiety, life transitions, bereavement, sexual abuse, trauma recovery and problems with communication. She provides all clients with opportunities to grow in their ability to recognize destructive behavioral and emotional patterns and learn to manage them in healthier ways.

As an Imago Relationship Therapist TM Ginny helps struggling couples learn better how to appreciate the rightness of relational conflict and how to shift the predictable tension from misery to healthy and satisfying connection.

As a facilitator of youth retreats and as a veteran high-school English teacher, Ginny brings a wealth of experience to her work with adolescents. Her years-long expertise as a Creative Writing teacher carries over into her philosophy of counseling people of all ages: she sees the counseling relationship as creative healing experience that can open clients to the opportunities available from every life crisis.

As a wife of 39 years, mother of three grown children, and grandmother of four, Ginny’s personal life fuels her passion and commitment to an integrated approach for helping clients move more healthily through the predictable challenges of being alive. Ginny credits the longevity of her marriage to good counseling. A long time fan of applying Bowen Family Systems Theory to her personal life, she finds it invaluable as a way to help clients understand themselves more objectively as they grow into greater awareness.

Nathan C. Gehlert, Ph.D., LPC

Nathan is passionate about helping people grow and heal. He provides a collaborative and encouraging environment for his clients to work on their goals and make the changes they desire in their lives. Psychotherapy is a rewarding and sometimes challenging endeavor - you're probably putting a lot of thought into the idea of getting help. If the time is right for you and you think you could work well together, then please feel free to contact him.

Areas of Expertise: Anxiety, Depression, Imago Relationship Therapy (couples therapy), Premarital Counseling, Work/career Concerns, Interpersonal Issues, Self-esteem, Men's Issues, and Spiritual/Religious Issues.

Working Together: Nathan embraces a client-centered approach to counseling, meaning that he works from a perspective that will integrate your needs, values, and beliefs. As his client you'll work together to set goals and develop a treatment plan to help you reach them.

Focusing on Wellness: The primary model of understanding in medicine and psychology has been the "disease model", which identifies what's wrong and then works to fix it. The more holistic approach involves helping people be healthy so they don't become sick. Nathan approaches counseling from this "wellness model." It's important to identify your strengths and use them to be well. The ultimate goal is for you to be healthy enough so that you don't need counseling anymore. Throughout treatment, you'll consider what you'll need to do to stay healthy when that day arrives.

More About Nathan: Nathan received master's and doctoral degrees in counseling at Loyola University Maryland. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor and is concluding training to become a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, the American Counseling Association, the Mid-Atlantic Association of Imago Therapists, and Alpha Sigma Nu Honor Society.

Prior to beginning clinical training, Nathan worked as a political consultant and fundraiser in Washington, DC. He hopes his previous career gives him an appreciation of the professional and personal struggles of some of his client in Washington. In his spare time, he enjoys exploring the city and traveling the world. He's also passionate about nature and enjoys hiking, running, and outdoor adventure activities.

Anne Erickson

Anne Erickson, M.A.

Anne Erickson believes the client-therapist relationship is one of the most powerful vehicles for personal growth and change. In her practice, Anne endeavors to create an accepting, non-judgmental space where clients can explore how their life experiences have helped shape who they are and move towards healthier ways of being. Meredith Janson

Meredith Janson, M.A.

Meredith Janson, M.A., is a counseling intern at the Imago Center and provides therapy services under the supervision of the licensed clinical supervisory team at the Imago Center. Meredith is a graduate of the Master's program in Marriage and Family Therapy at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, California, where she also gained extensive training in Expressive Arts therapy. When clinically appropriate, Meredith welcomes the opportunity to integrate visual art, writing, music, movement and drama into her therapy work.

Meredith brings a depth-oriented and strength-based approach to working with clients. While the journey of therapy can often require opening up to and working through pain and loss, it can also be an opportunity to discover inner resilience and hope in your life. Meredith's approach to working with clients is also rooted in the practice of mindfulness—the act of paying attention, with intention, to the present moment. As part of a holistic approach to counseling, Meredith may offer clients ways to use mindfulness as a tool to help regulate emotions and break free from negative thinking patterns. She welcomes and has experience working with people of all ages, ethnicities, genders and sexual preferences.

Meredith comes to the Imago Center with ten years of clinical experience. Most recently, she was a bereavement counselor at Sutter VNA & Hospice in San Francisco, California, where she worked with individuals and led support groups for Spousal Loss and for Motherless Daughters. She has also worked as a crisis hotline volunteer for Family Paths in Oakland, California, and as a patient care volunteer with terminal hospice patients in San Francisco. She has expertise in helping clients work on issues as diverse as relationships, stress management, parenting, child abuse prevention, substance abuse recovery, suicidality, depression, anxiety, illness, loss, death and dying, and spiritual exploration.

Meredith's interest in becoming trained in the Imago approach to relationship therapy comes from personal experience. She and her husband worked with an experienced Imago-trained therapist for two years, prior to getting married. Because Imago therapy has had a lasting positive impact on her marriage, Meredith feels passionate about becoming trained in this method, to help other couples find their way through challenging times.

Prior to earning her Master's degree, Meredith received a B.A. (magna cum laude) in French and Political Science from Wellesley College. She worked for ten years as a journalist and communications professional and continues to write for women's magazines, including Family Circle and Shape, specializing in the topic of women's health and psychology. Meredith is an associate member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.

Meredith enjoys hitting nearby hiking trails and exploring the city on bicycle with her husband. She finds great joy in creative pursuits, from cooking healthy desserts to performing at open mics with Speakeasy DC, a local non-profit that seeks to build community through the art of autobiographical storytelling.
