Releasing and Transforming Anger (RTA)
Anger Management and Root Issues

Anger is a human emotion that troubles many people today. The stress of everyday life taxes many peoples' ability to cope and they respond with frustration and anger. For some, it is a method unconsciously learned in childhood as a way to deal with conflict. Others use anger as a defense or protection against underlying pain.

Anger, itself, is a biological response to an actual or perceived threat to the person's safety and well-being. In letting us know of danger, anger serves a very important function in our lives. Problems with anger arise, however, when people become stuck in the angry response and it starts to impact the rest of their lives. Uncontrolled anger can lead to domestic violence, job loss, injury and even jail.

Releasing and transforming anger goes beyond traditional anger management programs. Incorporating both spirituality and body centered psychotherapy, RTA teaches anger management techniques in the context of facilitating clients addressing the underlying pain or stress. Building on her experience co-leading anger management groups in Montgomery County's Abused Persons Program, pastoral counselor Kathleen E. Scheg uses recent advances in neuroscience, along with her training in Motivational Interviewing and in the Core Energetics Evolutionary Process, to help clients release and transform anger. Participants in RTA learn basic anger management techniques during a 15-week psychosocial education group accompanied by individual therapy sessions to address their personal underlying issues.

A 15-week Releasing and Transforming Anger (RTA) program will be held on Wednesday's 7:30-8:45 P.M. at the Pastoral Counseling and Consultation Centers of Greater Washington in Takoma Park, Washington DC. Please contact Kathleen E. Scheg at 202-449-3789 ext. 710 for starting dates and/or more information.
